Writing Reports to Funders

Writing Reports to Funders ABAN Online Capacity Building Institute With Nanette Pyne Training Summary Session I: Writing Reports to Funders – The Basics Tuesday, January 21, 2014 8:00am EST – 10:00am EST Session II: Practical Tips for Writing Proposals and Reports Tuesday, January 23, 2014 2014 8:00am EST – 10:00am EST This is a two-session online eIntensive training through WLP’s Online Learning Portal, ABAN. This English language eIntensive explores how to write professional, informative, transparent, and interesting reports to funders and others that reflect our activities and outcomes well. Because reports to funders are the preliminary step to the next “ask” cycle, it is important that we write compelling, specific reports that demonstrate not only the outcomes we achieve but also how we are helping the founders achieve their goals. This training session will cover the mechanics of writing good reports to funders, stressing the need to know the funder’s goals, thematic priorities, and report requirements, to be precise about details, to include diverse voices and Lessons Learned, and especially to show the impact of our work. We will also discuss the importance of and how to demonstrate long-term impact, including outcomes that aren’t necessarily achieved during the “reporting period.” The training will be specific as to what WLP needs in its reports but also general enough so that participants will come away with resources and information that they can use to write reports to their own funders and make stronger cases for support to funding agencies, foundations, and the public. This session is for WLP partner staff who are involved in gathering information for and writing reports or proposals to funders.
